Ever wondered how long it would take for your investments to double? You can estimate it easily using a simple financial concept called the Rule of 72.

The formula is simple. Just divide the number 72 by your expected annual return rate.

For example, if you expect a 12 percent annual return, divide 72 by 12, which gives you 6. This means with the power of compounding, your money could roughly double in 6 years.

In this episode of Wealth Watch, Syeda Manahil Amin and Rohail Ahmed Khan unpack the key macroeconomic developments and market shifts from September 2026, breaking down what an improving external front combined with domestic pressures means for your investment portfolio.

Pakistan saw major external milestones this month, including a successful return to the international bond market raising USD 3 billion and SBP foreign exchange reserves reaching a record USD 21.4 billion. However, domestic markets presented a contrasting picture: while headline inflation dropped to 10.3%, the SBP held the policy rate at 11.5%, and secondary market bond yields spiked. Meanwhile, the KSE-100 recorded its sharpest monthly decline since March, even as more than 25,000 new retail investors joined the exchange.

When it comes to mutual funds, the most common question is often the wrong one: "Which fund gives the highest return?" Instead, investors should be asking which type of investment actually aligns with their specific financial goals.

In Episode 32 of Beyond the Numbers, Syeda Manahil Amin, Research Analyst at JS Investments, breaks down why there is no single "right" mutual fund for everyone. She explains how personal timelines, risk tolerance, and income needs should ultimately dictate your investment choices.

The session explores the entire investment spectrum—from the liquidity of money-market funds and the stability of income funds, to the growth potential of balanced funds, equities, and ETFs. It also provides a practical framework for evaluating funds beyond just looking at their past performance, including assessing risk profiles, fees, return consistency, and Shariah-compliant options.

Whether you are building a short-term emergency fund or planning for retirement twenty years from now, this session will help you navigate the available asset classes and understand what your money needs to do for you.

Want to invest passively but torn between Mutual Funds and ETFs?

Here is a quick breakdown to help you choose the right vehicle for your strategy.

ETFs trade in real-time during market hours, while Mutual Funds are priced at the end of the day.
For account setup, you can trade any ETF through a single brokerage account, whereas Mutual Funds require opening separate accounts for different AMCs.

When it comes to fees, ETFs involve a minimal brokerage commission but no front or back-end loads, while Mutual Funds skip the brokerage commission but may charge loads.

Whether you choose the dynamic accessibility of Pakistan’s 9 active ETFs, which hold approximately Rs. 7.8 Billion in AUM, or the traditional Mutual Fund structure, both allow you to build wealth steadily through a monthly Systematic Investment Plan.

When entering the equity market, every investor faces a fundamental choice: should you try to beat the index, or let the index work for you?

In this clip from Episode 31 of Beyond the Numbers, Hassan Raza, Head of Product Structuring at JS Investments, breaks down the core dynamics behind Active Investing and Passive Investing.

Active investing demands continuous legwork—evaluating company balance sheets, monitoring State Bank policy shifts, and timing sector rotations to generate alpha. Passive investing, on the other hand, strips away the friction of stock picking. By tracking broad-market indices, you participate directly in market-wide growth with structured diversification, lower overheads, and disciplined peace of mind.

The goal isn't deciding which philosophy is universally better—it is identifying which vehicle genuinely matches your time commitment, risk tolerance, and long-term financial horizon.

Agriculture accounts for roughly 𝟐𝟒% 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐆𝐃𝐏, but its impact goes far beyond that single number.

In this video, we look at Pakistan’s GDP growth versus agricultural growth over the last 17 years to see why farming matters so much to the broader economy:

● In FY2020, while Pakistan’s economy contracted by 1.3%, agriculture grew by nearly 4%, serving as a critical cushion.
● In FY2024, the economy expanded by just over 3%, largely powered by an impressive 6.4% jump in agriculture.
● By FY2025, agricultural growth dropped back to around 1.5%, underscoring the volatility that ripples across the country.

Agriculture is not just farming—it supports rural livelihoods, sustains food security, and drives demand across industrial and manufacturing sectors.
